I will be forever grateful for the experience I had with my assessment for autism and ADHD. After feeling failed by the NHS I knew I needed to take steps privately but was worried about how it would go and of course the cost. I can safely say it was incredible value for how comprehensive and life changing it has been. Andy was the most incredible clinician making me feel safe and secure in what is a vulnerable and daunting situation. I felt so assured by his wealth of knowledge and experience. I felt able to express myself throughout and that I was given every opportunity to get the most out of the whole process. The follow up and report were also fantastic and again very comprehensive. All the staff from the centre were helpful and sensitive in all communication and I can't recommend the place highly enough. Thank you!

After being told by the NHS it will be some time and being so uncomfortable in your own head. I looked around, and after a call to see how things worked, I got the information pack and booked everything there and then, and I’ve found myself now, it explains my childhood, my teens and into my adulthood. I can’t recommend these guys enough, nothing was rushed, took as long as it took Mine was even done during my time out the country, all via Teams. At 46 I can breathe today!

I am so grateful that we approached the Autism and ADHD Diagnostic Centre about my grandson. We had been struggling with him for years, and finally decided we couldn't wait on the NHS any longer. This was the best decision we've ever made. The staff have been nothing but helpful and caring from day one. Every enquiry was answered promptly with care and compassion. Our appointment was a positive and non-stressful meeting and I would highly recommend using Autism and ADHD Diagnostic Centre to anyone.

We recently had a autism assessment with Andy for our son Ewan, I will struggle to find the words to explain how positive the experience was, from the first email I sent to the appointment with Andy was smooth and the communication from Kirsty and Dani was quick and very efficient .. shout ok to them😀. Andy is warm, approachable and supportive, putting my husband, myself and Ewan at ease right away. As soon as I sat down I knew this was the right place to have the assessment. Andy's knowledge and expertise is outstanding, put us at ease and explaining all parts of the assessment with us, going through every part, making sure we were ok and we understood the process. What stood out for us, was Andy's genuine kindest, when a situation like this can be scarey .. going for an assessment like this is not an easy process, but the outcome means that our son can move on with his life, he's not "strange" or "weird" He just has a different way of thinking and processing. Andy was able to help with the way we communicate with Ewan, going forward. If anyone is struggling with thinking you maybe living with autism or ADHD .. go and have this assessment done. It will change your life. It will let you see that this diagnosis is a different way of thinking 🤔 and wear that with pride. Thank you Andy.

Andy was professional, yet incredibly down to earth and comforting. After having a previous diagnosis, this assessment felt much more about myself and my experiences. No regrets having both a private and NHS diagnosis now I’ve seen the differences in procedures. Many thanks, guys.

Autism Diagnosis in London: What an Assessment Can Tell You

Autism is a lifelong developmental difference. It affects how a person communicates, relates to others, processes information and experiences the world. It shows up differently in every person. You may also see it called autism spectrum disorder (ASD) or autism spectrum condition (ASC).

An autism assessment can tell you whether autism explains the differences you or your child live with. You receive a clear diagnostic outcome and a written report with recommendations you can act on. Many people find that a formal answer makes it easier to ask for the right support at work, in education and at home.

Autism and ADHD can occur together. If you are considering both, read about our private ADHD assessment in London, or ask about our combined autism and ADHD assessment.

What Your Autism Assessment Includes

Whether you want a first diagnosis or a second opinion, every autism assessment at our London clinic includes:

  • A free initial consultation before you commit
  • A pre-assessment interview, so your clinician understands your history before the main assessment
  • A validated diagnostic assessment, using structured clinical interviews and recognised diagnostic tools, in line with NICE guidance
  • A developmental history, and input from parents and school for children
  • A review of your case by a multi-disciplinary team
  • A detailed written report with personalised recommendations
  • A feedback session to go through the findings and agree next steps

The assessment looks at:

  • Social communication and interaction
  • Repetitive behaviours, routines and focused interests
  • Sensory differences, such as sensitivity to sound, light or touch
  • Attention, flexibility and how you handle change
  • How these affect daily life at home, at work or at school

Is an Autism Assessment Right for You?

An assessment may help if you, or your child:

Recognise autistic traits, or people close to you have noticed them.

Have always found social situations, communication or sensory experiences hard.

Want a formal diagnosis to help you ask for the right support.

Do you want to confirm a diagnosis, or understand yourself or your child better? We shape the assessment around your age and needs.

Adult Autism Assessment in London

Many adults come to us after years of feeling different without knowing why. Some have masked their traits for a long time. Others start to wonder after a child or family member receives a diagnosis. Your clinician explores how you communicate, relate to others and handle daily life, now and in childhood.

Benefits of Taking a Private Child ADHD Assessment in Birmingham

Child Autism Assessment in London

A child autism assessment combines conversation, structured activity and observation. Your child meets the assessor in a friendly, calm setting. We gather information from you and, with your consent, from your child’s school. That way we understand how your child gets on in different settings.

Masking and Late Autism Diagnosis

Masking means hiding or copying behaviours to fit in. Many autistic people mask without realising it. It can take a lot of energy, and over time it may lead to exhaustion, anxiety or burnout.

Masking can also mean autism goes unrecognised for years. This is common in women and girls, and in adults who did well at school. Our clinicians know how masking can hide autistic traits. They take time to look beneath it.

Many people diagnosed later in life tell us the same thing. The diagnosis helps them make sense of the past and plan for the future.

Signs of Autism an Assessment Looks At

Autism looks different in every person. Your assessment explores four main areas:

Social Communication Differences

You may find body language and facial expressions hard to read. Eye contact may feel uncomfortable. Conversations and new relationships may take a lot of effort.

Repetitive Behaviours and Routines

You may prefer predictable routines and feel distress when small things change. Repeated movements or strong, focused interests are also common.

Sensory Differences

You may react strongly to sound, light, smell or texture, or barely notice them. Busy or noisy places can feel overwhelming.

Attention and Focus Differences

You may focus deeply on things that interest you, but find it hard to switch attention. This can be a strength and a challenge at school, at work and at home.

Recognising some of these traits is not a diagnosis. A full autism assessment can tell you whether autism explains them, and what would help.

How to Get an Autism Diagnosis in London: Step by Step

Step 1

Free Initial Consultation

Tell us what has led you to seek an assessment and what you hope to get from it. We explain the process and confirm the cost. You then decide whether to go ahead. There is no obligation.

Step 2

Pre-Assessment Interview and Diagnostic Assessment

Your clinician starts with a pre-assessment interview to understand your history. The validated diagnostic assessment follows. It combines structured clinical interviews and recognised diagnostic tools, in line with NICE guidance. We go at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Step 3

Multi-Disciplinary Review and Report

More than one clinician reviews your assessment before we confirm an outcome. You then receive a written report that sets out the findings. We write it so you can share it with employers, schools or healthcare professionals.

Step 4

Feedback and Support

We go through the outcome and recommendations with you. We also point you to support organisations and tools. You do not have to work out what happens next on your own.

How Much Does a Private Autism Assessment in London Cost?

Cost matters to most people, so we set it out clearly. Our London prices are the same for adults and children. There are no hidden costs.

A private autism assessment costs £1,950 in two stages:

  • Stage 1, pre-assessment interview: £450
  • Stage 2, validated diagnostic assessment: £1,500

Our other London prices:

  • Combined autism and ADHD assessment: £2,600
  • ADHD diagnostic assessment: £1,000

Do you think both autism and ADHD may apply? The combined assessment covers both in a single pathway. If you take the two assessments separately, they cost £2,950, so the combined route saves you £350. Your free consultation confirms which assessment suits you before you commit to anything.

You can spread the cost, interest-free:

  • Autism assessment: 3 monthly payments of £650 with Klarna Pay in 3, or pay with Clearpay
  • Combined assessment: 4 monthly payments of £650 at 0% with PayPal Credit

Many families find this makes a private assessment possible when paying in one go would not be.

How to Prepare for Your Autism Assessment

A little preparation helps you get the most from your appointment. Before you come, you may find it useful to:

  • Note real examples of what you find hard, at work, at home or with other people
  • Ask a parent, sibling or older relative what they remember about you as a young child
  • Find old school reports, if you have them, as these can show patterns from childhood
  • List any previous assessments, diagnoses or medicines
  • Tell us about any adjustments that would help you on the day, such as lighting or breaks

For a child assessment, bring recent school reports and any notes from teachers. Explain to your child that they will meet a friendly person and do some talking and activities. A familiar comfort item may help them settle.

Life After an Autism Diagnosis

A diagnosis is a starting point. Many people find it gives them answers they have looked for over many years. A diagnosis can help you in four ways:

Understanding Yourself: You can make sense of past experiences and the things you find hard today.

Strategies That Fit You: Your report recommends practical ways to build on your strengths and manage what you find harder.

Clearer Relationships: Knowing your autistic profile can help you explain your needs to family, friends and colleagues.

Access to Support: A diagnosis can support a request for workplace adjustments, help in education or local support services.

Private Autism Assessment in London: Frequently Asked Questions

A private autism assessment is a structured clinical evaluation. Specialist clinicians use it to find out whether a person meets the diagnostic criteria for autism. It combines structured interviews, a developmental history and observation. At the end, you receive a written diagnostic report. Our assessments follow NICE guidance.

Start by arranging a free initial consultation with us. If an assessment is the right step, we explain what it involves and confirm the cost before you commit. Your assessment takes place at our clinic at 10 Harley Street, London W1G 9PF. You can also call us on 0141 212 4966.

Yes. Most NHS autism services need a referral from your GP or another health professional. Some accept self-referrals. Waiting times vary between areas. Some people choose a private assessment while they wait, or instead. Our free consultation can help you decide which route suits you.

A private autism assessment at our London clinic costs £1,950, for adults and children alike. That covers a pre-assessment interview (£450) and a validated diagnostic assessment (£1,500). A combined autism and ADHD assessment costs £2,600, which is £350 less than taking the two assessments separately. There are no hidden costs. You can spread the cost, interest-free, with Klarna Pay in 3, Clearpay or PayPal Credit.

No. Many people search for an autism test, but no single test diagnoses autism. Online questionnaires can show whether it may be worth looking into further, but they cannot give a diagnosis. A full autism assessment gathers information from several sources. Qualified clinicians carry it out.

Yes. Many of the adults we see never had an assessment as children. An adult assessment looks at your childhood history and your life now, across work, relationships and daily life. People often come to us after they recognise traits in themselves, or after a family member receives a diagnosis.

Yes, it can. Many women and girls mask their autistic traits, sometimes without knowing it. Their traits may also look different from the patterns people expect. As a result, many women receive a diagnosis later in life. Our clinicians take time to look beneath masking during the assessment.

Yes. A child assessment combines conversation, structured activity and observation in a calm setting. We gather information from parents and, with your consent, from school. That helps the clinician understand how your child gets on in different settings.

Many schools use private reports to understand a child’s needs and plan support. Acceptance varies between schools and local authorities. A report can form part of the evidence for an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) request, but your local authority makes its own decision. Talk to your child’s school early, so you know what to expect.

Our assessments follow NICE guidance, and you can share your report with your GP. Acceptance of private reports varies between GP practices and NHS services. Decisions about any NHS care rest with them. Ask your practice about its approach before you start, so you know what to expect.

They all describe autism. ASD stands for autism spectrum disorder, the term in diagnostic manuals. ASC stands for autism spectrum condition, which some people prefer. Clinicians no longer diagnose Asperger’s syndrome as a separate condition. It now falls within autism. Many autistic people simply prefer the word autism.

Yes. Autism and ADHD can occur together. Our combined autism and ADHD assessment covers both in a single pathway for £2,600. That is £350 less than taking the two assessments separately. Your free consultation helps you decide which assessment suits you.

You receive a written report that sets out the findings and recommendations. You can share it with employers, schools or healthcare professionals. We go through it with you, and point you to support organisations and tools. We can also talk about reasonable adjustments that may help in your situation.

No. You can travel to our Harley Street clinic from anywhere. We also run autism clinics in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Birmingham, with the same assessment approach in each.
